T’is the season to go to Pret! It’s the time of the year where you could legitimately purchase and consume a mince pie every day (we wouldn’t recommend it, though). If you’re feeling festive and want to shake up your £3.50 Boots meal deal for something with a bit more cheer, you’re in luck. High street giants Leon, Pret, Café Nero and Boots have all introduced their Christmas specials and they ALL include a fabulous vegan option. We’ve tried them, and have it on good authority that they’re (mostly) worth the extra £1.50. You’re welcome!
Leon – Vegan Christmas wrap
Leon describe it as: “A nutty roast with sweet potato falafel topped with cranberry & clementine sauce and a you-won’t-believe-it’s vegan sage & onion mayo, with rocket, toasted pine nuts and crispy onions.” We describe it as: “Nice, but a bit dry and doesn’t beat the halloumi wrap”. Still worth a try though, especially because they’re donating a percentage of sales to Save the Children. A sandwich with a conscience – what more could you want?
Pret – Very Merry Christmas lunch sandwich
Layering carrots, spinach, and port and orange cranberry sauce on granary bread, this one is not short on flavour. However, the stuffing isn’t ideal and can taste slightly undercooked – it really depends how big of an onion fan you are.
Café Nero – Gingerbread Latte (with Soy)
Deck the halls with gingerbread lattes! This one is a lovely winter warmer, but be warned, it is VERY sweet and can leave a slightly cloying aftertaste.
Boots – Parsnip Fritter and Butternut Squash Sandwich
Okay, we know these have been in stores since October – but still! Boots have been doing their Christmas sandwich thing for years, and it shows. This one is definitely the best of the lot and makes for an extremely festive lunchtime!
